چکیده

Background MR-guided electrophysiology (MR-EP) for the treatment of arrhythmia has the potential advantages of improved soft tissue contrast navigation and visualization of ablation-induced tissue changes. In the past, the development of MR-conditional EP catheters and an appropriate image guidance platform have represented major obstacles. The aim of this work was to establish and evaluate a catheter-guided approach that allows monitoring of radiofrequency (RF) ablation at the electrode tip.

Electroanatomic mapping and radiofrequency ablation of porcine left atria and atrioventricular nodes using magnetic resonance catheter tracking.

BACKGROUND The MRI-compatible electrophysiology system previously used for MR-guided left ventricular electroanatomic mapping was enhanced with improved MR tracking, an MR-compatible radiofrequency ablation system and higher-resolution imaging sequences to enable mapping, ablation, and ablation monitoring in smaller cardiac structures. MR-tracked navigation was performed to the left atrium (LA)...

MRI-conditional catheter sensor for contact force and temperature monitoring during cardiac electrophysiological procedures

Background MR-guided cardiac electrophysiological (EP) ablations has drawn increasing attention from both the MRI and EP communities, as high-contrast MR images provide images that couple anatomical information with lesion efficacy [1]. Catheter manipulation can be challenging for cardiac electrophysiologists as conventional electroanatomical maps, frequently include false space. Perforation of...

Visualization and temporal/spatial characterization of cardiac radiofrequency ablation lesions using magnetic resonance imaging.

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to describe a system and method for creating, visualizing, and monitoring cardiac radiofrequency ablation (RFA) therapy during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). METHODS AND RESULTS RFA was performed in the right ventricular apex of 6 healthy mongrel dogs with a custom 7F nonmagnetic ablation catheter (4-mm electrode) in a newly developed real-time inte...

MRI-based visual and haptic catheter feedback: simulating a novel system's contribution to efficient and safe MRI-guided cardiac electrophysiology procedures

Background MRI-guided Electrophysiology (EP) procedures integrate real-time MRI images with catheter position during Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) of arrhythmias [1]. Using simultaneous MR catheter tracking and imaging [2], this technology can both guide catheter manipulation and provide dynamic assessment of lesion efficacy [3]. Despite advances in MRI-guided EP, maneuvering catheters to the d...

Feasibility of real-time MR thermal dose mapping for predicting radiofrequency ablation outcome in the myocardium in vivo

BACKGROUND Clinical treatment of cardiac arrhythmia by radiofrequency ablation (RFA) currently lacks quantitative and precise visualization of lesion formation in the myocardium during the procedure. This study aims at evaluating thermal dose (TD) imaging obtained from real-time magnetic resonance (MR) thermometry on the heart as a relevant indicator of the thermal lesion extent. METHODS MR t...
